Personally, I don't like watching scary movies. I'm very squeamish and I end up missing the whole movie anyways because I have both hands on my face. But, one scary movie that I will never forget is the Grudge. I don't remember the film techniques that were used, but I know a lot of non-diagetic sound was incorporated. High pitched screeching noises play whenever the girl appears.

I saw Hide and Seek (2005) with Dakota Fanning and Robert De Niro. The movie is a psychological thriller about a girl and her dad trying to start over after the supposed suicide of the mother. This movie is full of suspense and little clues throughout for the audience to try to put together until the big reveal is shown at the end. I really enjoy horror movies and although this is more of a thriller it's dark tones and creepy acting made it awesome.

I saw The Amityville Horror with Ryan Reynolds as George Lutz and Melissa George as Kathy Lutz. This film was very similar to The Shining in that the husband/ father was taken over by an outside influence. This film is about George and Kathy falling in love and moving themselves and their family into a beautiful house with a tiny price tag, they thought it was too good to be true! While living there George starts changing. He's becoming into the previous tenant who brutally murdered his family. After almost killing his family Kathy and the kids were able to get him away from the house so he was starting to let go of whatever was possessing him and was himself again. Both films use diegitic and non-diegetic sounds to give the audience a better sense of their emotions and what they're going through. I like how thus film shows Georges pergression to becoming possessed.

Along with Rhussia, I am not a huge fan of horror movies but I recently watched The Conjuring. It sounds very similar to Emily's movie in that a family moves into their seemingly perfect new home. Over time Carolyn, the mother, slowly starts to become possessed by the ghost of the previous owner. Once the family starts to realize their home is haunted, they get in touch with paranormal investigators who must quickly perform an exorcism before Carolyn kills her daughters. The Conjuring also relies heavily on diagetic and non-diagetic sounds which again help create suspense and fear among both the viewers and characters.
